On September 16th the club is taking part in the annual Bart’s bash race. This is the biggest racing event in the world named in memory of Andrew Simpson, who was tragically killed in a sailing accident.
On the 15th and 16th September clubs from all over the world will be racing on their own stretch of water, with all the results then being computed into one large race. You can then see how you got on in your own class, age group or experience level etc.
At Oxford we will use the Sunday morning race to take part. To normal club members this means no change, including the asymmetrics who will have their usual windward/ leeward course.
To those of you who don’t take part in club racing this is a fantastic opportunity to race with the best sailors in the club. I’m hoping that many of the Novice/ Casual racers will take part, especially as we will have had five races to prepare!!There will be a separate Novice start three minutes after the Slow fleet start, when we will then chase after the rest of the fleet.
There will be half price boat hire available for those who want it and you are very welcome to stay on the water all day to cruise around or possibly joining in the afternoon racing.
If you follow the link below it explains how to register and join the Just Giving site. If you register you can compare yourself to every other sailor in the world. Just giving allows you to fundraise for the Andrew Simpson Foundation which is a dinghy based charity. If you you don’t wish to register you can give a voluntary donation on the day.
If we can get our logistics together we are hoping to enter the Guinness book of records to beat the record set in 2014.
If you require any more information please don’t hesitate to email me or ask me when I’m around the club.
It would be great to see lots of new faces at the start of club racing, you never know it could be the start of your racing career.
I’ll be around the club from 9.30 for an 11.00 start. Unlike novice racing it will be 11.00!! I will also give a briefing to anyone who hasn’t raced before at 10.30.
I hope to see you there.
Tony Bell - Novice Fleet Captain
