Here is the usual reminder that Novice/ Casual racing is taking part next Saturday 1st June. I know I say it every month, the event is open to all members and this includes all the new members who’ve been coming to pay and play, and judging by the attendance on a Tuesday, the Novice fleet should be very competitive. Last month there was only four boats in the fleet the rest were casuals, so chances of winning wine or chocolate look good.
If you’re new to the club and you’re... not sure if you fancy racing, pop along, grab a boat, free hire, and have a cruise around the course and the safety boat will keep an eye on you.
This month sees the return of Mike Truman as OOD who is always passionate above improving everyone’s sailing. In the casual fleet David and Tess are on the duty, so the top position is up for grabs.
We sign in from 9.30, briefing at 10.30, and racing at 11.00 - 12.30. Afternoon racing is from 1.30 until you’ve stopped convincing Mike to run “Just one more race, please”, usually 3.30ish.
Presently the forecast is 20c and breezy, so hopefully that’s how it will stay, as opposed to a hot millpond that has happened in the past. Last month Saturday was perfect and club racing was cancelled due to lack of wind. Any of the more experienced members of the club who fancy taking advantage of the weather and joining in some short course, fun racing are very welcome. Any tips or advice for the up and coming members will be gratefully received, and you can only improve your own boat handling skills with some of the less conventional manoeuvres that take place!!
This is no club racing procession.
