Oxford Sailing Club would like to invite all members of the club to take part in this years Bart’s Bash.
As many of you know Andrew “Bart” Simpson was a gold medal winning Olympian who was killed in a tragic sailing accident. I also know many of you knew him personally and sailed with him. Once a year the whole world comes together to celebrate his memory, compete in worlds biggest sailing race and support the Andrew Simpson Sailing foundation sailing charity.
This year the Oxford Sailing Club leg of this race is on Sunday morning at 11.00.
It would be fantastic see as many boats on the water as possible. I’m hoping that many of the Novice/Casual racers will come along, and it would be great if the more experienced sailors would welcome them to what could be their first experience of club racing. Any helpful tips on trim, and a calm explanation on sailing etiquette would be appreciated. The last N/C racing had as many boats on the water as a busy club Sunday, it would be brilliant to encourage these people to transfer to sailing on a Sunday and Wednesday.
You can register on the Bart’s Bash website where you can compare your time to every boat in your class, every person you’re age etc. Last year we took people’s details on the morning and we were able to put them online. A charitable donations would be welcome.
The race is exactly the same as a normal Sunday with an additional start at 11.12 (Yellow Q flag). I will around the club beforehand and starting with the Novice fleet, so feel free please pester me on or off the water. If you’re new, remember the Officer of the Day, Chris Howe, will start the first race at 11.00 promptly, so you need to be on the water and ready ready to race. Depending on the wind direction, the start will be from the hut or alternatively between committee boat, Lightning Sue, and a dan buoy.
I look forward to seeing you you all on Sunday.
