Dinghy Use

OSC has a selection of boats and boards available for use by members.  Terms of use are linked here  (this will be updated shortly for 2019/20).  

 

Please note: 

  • Dinghies are available for members to use, free of charge.

  • Guests may use OSC dinghies when accompanied by a member.

  • Always complete a boat hire/use form, this helps us track when equipment is being used to help ensure equipment is maintained and kept in good condition for your next sail.

Storage of Club Equipment

Windsurf boards, rigs and sails are kept inn the windsurf store.

Masts and sails for Lasers, Picos and Toppers are also stored in the windsurf store.

Masts for the Fusions are stored in the second of the three red shipping containers.

Gennakers are available for three Visions and four Fevas when there are OSC sailing events taking place, please ask in the office for access.

Damaged or Missing Equipment

The large white board in the entrance hall shows which boats are in need of repair. 

 

Any equipment with red and white tape attached to equipment that is awaiting repair or maintenance so should not be used.

If you become aware of damaged or missing equipment, please add brief details to the Fault Log, which is the orange binder in the large grey cupboard inside the front door, alternatively use this Contact Form to inform us immediately you discover that any equipment is damaged or missing.

Safety Boats

Please note the following points before each duty as an OSC safety boat driver.

Fuel Store

The key to the fuel store is padlocked, to obtain the code for the lock please confirm you have read the OSC's “Dealing with Fuel” procedures.  You will need to read this annually to obtain the new code. A hard copy of the procedures and signature sheets are kept in a folder in the radio store together with a list of members who have completed this process.

  2. Complete the acknowledgement form (also attached) and either email or hand it into the Club office for the attention of Paul Kettle.

First Aid Pods

The white pods with red lids are kept in the cupboard next to the key board, this will help to preserve the contents of the pods ready for use; always collect the one for your boat at the start of your duty and return to the cupboard with the kill cord when you finish.  If you notice anything wrong with the pods please inform the office or use this contact form.

Radios and Kill Cords:

Please ensure you return these after your duty, these regularly go missing resulting in inconvenience, cost and potential risk so again please take care.  If you notice radios or kill cords are missing at the end of a day, please add a note to the Fault Log in the large grey cupboard located inside the front door or use this contact form.

Boats on floating dock:

We have experienced a few problems and breakages since introducing the floating dock so ask you to note the following requests.

  • Always have a second person with you when launching a boat.

  • Dry-running an engine will burn out the impeller after just 10 seconds so do not be tempted to start the engine until the boat is launched and the engine is fully in the water.

  • Remember the safety lines that run down the sides of the safety craft are for crew and passengers to hold when on board, they are not designed to be load baring so do not use them to lift the boat during launching or to tow boats or marks.

  • When towing, please use the rope bridle behind the engine.

  • When returning to the floating dock, the transom should not be forward of the edge of the floating dock; cut the engine immediately the boat is on the dock. Remember, dry-running an engine will burn out the impeller after just 10 seconds

Jaffa 7 & Jaffa 9

These two boats are kept on the black versa dock section closest to the main finger pontoon.  The engines should be raised when the boats are stored. 

Before launching the boats:

  • ensure all bungs are secure, if you are not sure where they are please ask

  • take care not to step in the void in the versa dock under the boat. 

After using the boat:

  • return to the versa dock

  • remove the fuel, first aid pod and kill cord and return to appropriate store

  • update the fuel log in the radio store (how many full cans are left)

  • record any problems with the boat in the log in the radio store.

RIB 01 (Vantage)

This RIB is the new addition to the safety fleet. Please follow the link to see the guide to using RIB 01

RIBs 2 & 3:

Remember the safety lines that run down the sides of the safety craft are for crew and passengers to hold when on board, they are not designed to be load baring so do not use them to tow boats, weights or marks.

When returning the RIBs, please take care to turn the ignition key off as well as removing the kill cord.  If you forget the battery can be drained resulting in one less safety boat until it is recharged.

 
 
 
 
 

Marks and Buoys

Inflatable [Rooster] Orange Marks

There are four large orange racing marks used mostly for open events, these are stored in the large blue chest/box located between the doors to the Bosun's Store and the Wetsuit Store. Finger marks, weight lines and weights are also store here.  Please select the following link for guidance on best practice when using marks
