The RYA have made this statement today:
"We encourage the boating community to join with the RYA and the rest of the country in doing what we can to halt the spread of the virus in the midst of what is an unprecedented situation. We recognise that this news will be disappointing and potentially worrying for some. However, at this stage that does not necessarily mean cancelling all sailing activity. There may be circumstances where it is appropriate for clubs and centres to continue to allow their members to sail on their water individually or in small groups, particularly where such sailing activity does not include accessing the clubhouse."
We have therefore taken the decision to close the oxford sailing club building and suspend all club organised activities initially until 3rd May. Please do not enter the OSC building even if you have keys available or you find it open. There is no requirement for anyone to attend duties until further notice.
Our main concern is we can no longer ensure that the OSC building is safe for our members, volunteers, catering staff and cleaners to access in pursuit of our past-time. The recommendation of social isolation from the government is not compatible with club activities.
However, you are still welcome to go sailing. We have made provisions that the power boats can be used without access to the OSC building and we will arrange for the club stores to be open on a Sunday for those wishing to use club kit.
I ask you to respect that we have not completely closed the club so please adopt social isolation. Please avoid forming groups in the boat park and beach and if you want to setup you own little racing groups, organise that before you come to the club. Email me with suggestions if you want me to announce it.
This Sunday coming (22nd March), l plan to be out on rescue with my son. It will be great to see some sails out.
