Windsurfing is thriving at the club with something for members of all ages and levels of experience. Here are a few examples:

Race nights (Tuesdays and Thursdays)

The Spring, Summer and Autumn series start at 6 pm.

Having a Blast

When the wind is up dinghies may come in but for many windsurfers that is when the fun starts, to find out more just ask someone with a huge smile when they come off the water.

During each year members log their fastest times and the fastest gets the trophy. Currently all are chasing the goal of 40 knotts.

Many people just come along when the wind is up expecting others to be there, some send messages on OSC Facebook.

Club Championships

This annual event is held during August; please see the OSC Events calendar on the homepage for further details.

To find out more, please contact the Windsurfing Secretary, Russ Canning

Training evenings for those 16 years old and under.

Further information and contacts...

OSC Windsurf Secretary Russ Canning: Mobile 07767 254972

Russ is the Windsurf Secretary at Oxford Sailing Club. Having windsurfed for longer than he can remember, Russ is the Windsurf Secretary at Oxford Sailing Club and represents all windsurfing members in the club's structure. He has a wealth of knowledge covering all aspects of windsurfing both within OSC and the national circuit (UKWA, LWA)

Zoomers Administrator and Parent Coordinator: Kathy Illingworth: OR 07704 106880

As a parent of a current Zoomer and having first-hand experience of the Zone Squad circuit, Kathy is a great source of information about junior windsurfing in the UK. Let her know if you've got any questions on how Zoomers is organised at Oxford Sailing Club, how Team 15 and the annual inter-club challenge works, or anything you'd like to know about the RYA Zone Squad and beyond.

Membership and session booking required this season!

Zoomers meet every Thursday normally starting around mid-May to September from 18.00-20.00. Registration starts for 17.30 and all juniors should be fully rigged by 18.00 to be able to get on the water after a briefing. At this point we are not able to invite beginners; it is better to have completed at least one course. You can take your course at Oxford Sail Training Trust to get up to speed first. You should have your own wetsuit and preferably buoyancy aid: we have some available but Covid makes us shy of using them unless we have to.

The sessions cost £10 without kit, though you are welcome to bring your own.

Why not check out our Facebook page at OxfordZoomers (Team 15) Windsurfing to see what we get up to each week.

Zoomers currently has members from level 1 through to Junior National Squad Members so there really is something for everyone. Beijing Olympic Bronze Medallist Bryony Shaw and current RSX Tokyo Olympic hopeful Tom Squires both started their windsurf careers at Oxford Sailing Club. Tom can still be seen training at Farmoor Reservoir.

Team 15 & Zone Squad (2018 Winners!)

The T15 inter-club challenges are really friendly events and the competition is pitched to cater for all levels of ability. Every Team15 zone will have four local inter-club events per year (one each in May, June, July and August). Inter- club events are one day events, usually on a Saturday or a Sunday.

Teams of up to 15 people aged 16 and under (Team15) can go head to head with other teams. All clubs that participate in two or more interclub challenges are eligible to take a team to the National Championships in September.

The day starts off with a bit of real fun on the water to help break the ice then once everyone has relaxed a little and starts to enjoy themselves, various other challenges are set. You will sail with others who have the same size sail as you to keep things fair and there are prizes to be won - and not just by those who get top scores - so join in the fun!

When you take part in Team15 inter-club events, it is a requirement that you are an RYA member; you will need to take your RYA membership card along to events. You can join online. RYA membership gives you free third-party insurance and a unique sail number. It is not required for Zoomers attendance.

Zone Squad For anyone wanting a place in the RYA Zone Squad, attendance at the Zone Champs is compulsory. This is one of two indicator events that have to be attended.

All club sessions will be staffed by fully trained instructors. These may be assisted by volunteers (parents or windsurfers), who have been trained by Oxford sailing centre staff. The Oxford Sailing club is registered with the RYA and conforms to the safety guidelines issued by the RYA.
