Oxford SC Youth Summer Dinghy Race Series
Fun. Friendly. Supportive. A great way to build confidence on the water for those young sailors looking to develop their dinghy racing skills.
Welcome!
This summer Oxford Sailing Club is launching a brand new Youth Race Series, designed especially for young sailors who want to enjoy competitive and friendly racing, grow their skills, and become part of our enthusiastic racing community. To add to the overall experience, we will encourage our Youth members to be actively involved in helping organise the racing for this series alongside experienced members from our club racing community. This will help our club grow and produce the next generation of race officials. There will also be plenty of opportunities for willing parents to get involved on and off the water.
This series is deliberately supportive and aims to help develop ever sailor whether experienced or new to racing. The objective of this series is to give more opportunity for our young sailors to gain confidence, learn, and have fun whether racing or officiating the racing on the day.
Format of Racing
The racing will follow a simple, inclusive structure:
- General handicap fleet racing (all youth classes welcome)
- Short, simple courses suited to a wide range of boats and abilities
- Pre-race briefing before every session in Clubhouse circa 1345-1400HRS (be changed with boat on Beach ready to rig before this time)
- Onthewater coaching available for less experienced racers
Who Can Take Part
- The series is exclusively for youth of school age (U19)
- OSC members only, though members may sign in a limited number of guests
- (Dont worry — guests will be warmly encouraged to join OSC!)
- All Youth members are welcome, provided they can:
- understand the basic racing rules, and
- navigate a simple course safely in a variety of conditions.
Series Dates
All racing takes place on Sunday afternoons, Start times is Approx. 14:30 and all done by 16:30, click here for our events calendar.
- May 3rd & 31st
- June 7th, 14th & 21st
- July 12th & 19th
- August 9th & 16th
- September 6th & 13th.
