Friday 7 May update

Dear Members,

Very windy this weekend! Too windy for Club kit – you will shorten its life by using it in such conditions. New sailors will be surprised by the cost of sails, masts and foils which might be yours if you ignore the 20mph average windspeed limit. In particular, adult windsurfers found using Club childrens’ sails in strong winds (as happened last Monday) will face suspension.

Sunday Racing: If this goes ahead, it will be using the new coloured lighting system aboard Lightning Sue. Please make sure you read the April 2021 Amended Sailing Instructions, Racing Under Covid and know what colour light applies to your fleet’s start.

It’s Renewal Time! We’ll keep the discounted fees (5%) until Sunday 10 May inclusive, so you have this weekend before the price rises. There’s a renewal how-to (video or powerpoint) here. Even if you have a direct debit, you do need to confirm you are renewing. Email membership@oxfordsailingclub.com if you have any difficulties with the process and we’ll help. Let us know if you are not renewing, as we need to plan duty rotas for the season.

Easing Lockdown – Step 4 approaches – We expect some government clarification on social distancing soon. The changing rooms are being prepared; showers have been cleaned and are being tested for Legionella. Target is 17 May but we may be able to open them earlier. We’ll update the links below when things change.

Return To Racing!

You all know the 2-boat rule, but remember the water is cold, that wind off the beach means you have to beat all the way back, and to think before you go on the water in conditions you will find challenging, especially if big gusts are forecast. Be considerate of those who may (or may not) be around to help if things go wrong. 20mph average windspeed limit for using Club equipment!

The Committee looks forward to seeing you on the water soon.
