Youth Dinghy Sailing - Oxford Pirates

Pirates is our youth programme catering for children from 8 to 18 years. As a youth or family member you'll have access to:
- Year round coaching by our qualified instructors and race coaches
- Participation in youth regattas at Farmoor run by the club and school sailing teams
- Training camps and booster days during the holidays
- A fleet of RYA Junior and Youth class boats, RS Teras, Toppers, ILCAs (Lasers) and RS Fevas
- For training and casual sailing we also have Fusions, RS Zests and Topper Argos (For older youth or family sailing). Click here for details of our dinghy fleet
- Participate in open fleet racing and team racing competition with sailors from other clubs.
Come along to develop your skills, race against your peers and, most importantly, have fun!

Training sessions run every Tuesday evening from mid-April to mid-September (5:30pm for registration and finished by 8pm) and at weekends through the 'winter' months.
Skill levels
To join the Pirates activities you need to have the following levels of sailing skill:
- Tuesday evening training sessions - minimum skill equivalent to RYA Youth Sailing Stage 2.
- Other Pirates activities - minimum skill level equivalent to RYA Youth Sailing Stage 3
If your child hasn't sailed before, then we recommend they take a learn to sail course with Oxford Sail Training Trust at Farmoor.

The RYA British Sailing Pathway is designed to help young sailors build strong fundamentals, enjoy racing in a friendly, supportive environment, and develop a lifelong love of the sport.
Being a Pathway Club places OSC within a national network committed to providing high quality, affordable junior training and creating vibrant communities of young sailors.
Booking
Young sailors must be booked onto training sessions before coming along. Members click here to book and pay online via our events calendar.
Sessions cost £10 (2025-26 season), which includes the use of a club boat.
