2026 Youth Race Series
The Youth Series is a Dinghy series that is open to all OSC Youth members of age 18 years or younger. Members can use their own boats, club boats and school boats provided that the school has given them clear permission to use them. Club boats will be subject to OSC club boat rules and cannot be used in wind speeds that exceed 20mph average with gusts exceeding 25mph. The Club will look to accommodate a mixed variety of boats to enable as wide a level of participation as possible. Members looking to participate in this series would be expected to have a basic knowledge of the current RRS and be able to sail confidently around a simple course in a variety of conditions and capable of self rescuing. On the water coaching may be available to participants on some dates.
Racing will be based on the current RRS and Oxford SC Bylaws and consist of two general handicap races of approximately 30 minute each, sailed back-back. There will be an on the day briefing in the clubhouse for each date approx 1345-1400HRS. Make sure your boat is on the Beach and ready to rig before this time. There will be a single combined start for all boats, sailing the same course. The proposed starting time of the first race shall be 14:30 hrs and follow RRS 26 with a starting sequence of 5,4,1,0. The second race shall start as soon after the completion of the first race.
This series will depend heavily on the willingness of volunteers. OSC would request that Parents/guardians actively assist with helping running the racing and helping on the day. Please let Tom or Will know and they will fit you in or volunteer in the usual way via the Duty Roster using your child's name if you are not an OSC member yourself. The Club is also looking to encourage Youth members to be actively involved with volunteering for Race Duties to support this series.
Attendance during this series is subject to OSC Youth Event /Training Terms rules and by laws. For any child under 16, a parent/guardian should stay on site, readily available to supervise their children at all times
