The Wednesday Evening Series

Organised racing at Oxford Sailing Club on a Wednesday evening, comprises of one dinghy handicap race held on every Wednesday between the 1st of April and the 2nd of September.  Racing is scheduled to start at 18:45, so make sure you leave your self plenty of time to get through the Oxford traffic on the way to the club!

The racing is divided into fleets based on boat type and handicap, generally ensuring fair competition and is run over twenty three races.

There is food in the Cafe' after racing,{remember to book before hand on the club web site booking form} as well as refreshments from the bar. Don't feel like racing, chill out alfresco style and enjoy good company and the panoramic vistas of Farmoor.

Here are the main fleets:

The asymmetric fleet sail a windward leeward course.

The fleet consists of asymmetric boats with a Portsmouth Yardstick of more than 1005 {i.e. Vareo, 2000, etc}, which sail 3 laps; asymmetric and non-asymmetric dinghies and multihulls with a recognised Portsmouth Yardstick of 960 or less (e.g., RS 700, D-One, Musto Skiff, 505, K6, multihulls etc), which sail 4 laps:

You may choose to race in the 'Radial' fleet during the series or the ILCA 7 fleet during the series, but your points can only go towards one or the other.

If you are new to dinghy racing or maybe feel intimidated by club racing, don't worry, give it a try.

Talk to the sailors on the beach, they will be only to happy to give advice and assistance to you.

Providing the wind strength is within the 20mph limit, borrow a club boat and join in with the racing.
