Boxing Day Pursuit Race. Note Gate Times!

26th December 2022, 11:00 - 13:00

Helpful if you book as it helps us plan for the Mulled wine and mince pies afterwards in the Clubhouse. Use the ticket to book (free). Windsurfers welcome to join sailors in the Clubhouse.

NB: There is no access to the Farmoor site for the public so we'll be unlocking the gates at about 10:00 and locking them at about 10:35

For those of you unfamiliar with the pursuit race format, the theory is that all boats will finish together, because their start times are staggered according to their handicap, their RYA Portsmouth Number (PN, often called P. Yardstick, or PY) which is supposed to compensate for speed differences. It's down to the skill of the sailor and the luck of the wind! Reality means boats are mostly spread out by the time the race is stopped after 80 minutes.

Starts will begin at around 11:00 with the slowest boats starting a bit earlier. Then there will be starts every 1 minute - there will be a list on the Club noticeboard telling you which slot your boat should start in. The first to go will probably be Toppers (PN1365), Gulls (1341), Fusions (PN with no spinnaker 1300), Zests (1260). The committee boat will hoot and change the slot numbers as the previous start leaves. The attached RYA PN list is missing Zests, Gulls and possibly other less common boats, but most are there - it is uploaded below.

At the finish hooter, stay in your position, noting the sail number of the boats in front and behind until the safety boat has logged you.
