Novice and Casual Series

1st July 2023, 09:30 - 15:30

Novice and Casual Racing is back for Sunny June this coming Saturday. Here's Tony Bell, our intrepid Novice Fleet Captain:

A quick reminder that this month's Novice/ Casual racing is happening next Saturday, 3rd July.

Last month we were treated to perfect wind conditions, resulting in exhilarating racing, with the the Novice fleet consisting of every club Fusion, with an eclectic mix of craft in the Casual fleet.

As I always mention, the event is free and open to all members of the club regardless of experience or ability, including any newly qualified sailors. It's always great to see families out in the Visions. If the idea of racing doesn't appeal, pop down and have a casual sail around the race area where there will be plenty of safety cover, perhaps joining in if you like what you see.

The first race will start at 11.00 on the water with several back to races (likely to be 4-5). Two in the morning, three after lunch. We race over a fairly short course, with each race lasting about 20 minutes

I would recommend arriving at just after 9.30, get your boat down to the beach with a view of launching at 10.30, after a quick briefing prior to racing, explaining the start sequence and general points and rules. You might like to to brush up on some basic rules of sailing prior to turning up. Feel free to sail in either the morning or afternoon session if you you are pushed for time. As many of you know there are prizes at the end of the day.

The position is OOD is still up for grabs. If anyone would like to volunteer feel free to register on the duty roster. However I have a cunning plan if no one is forthcoming; I'll do it myself The race team and myself are very much looking forward to seeing you all next Saturday

Tony Bell, Novice Fleet Captain
