A pursuit race! How does a Pursuit Race work?

Have a go if you haven't done it before. It's a simple concept...boats of different speeds start at different times based on their RYA Portsmouth Yardstick Number (PN). All boats are finished at the same time (80 minutes) after the first start at 00 minutes (normal start time 11:00am). Take a look at the "Pursuit Starts" pdf. attached. Fusions start at 0 minutes, ILCA 4s at 5 minutes, ILCA 6s at 9 minutes and ILCA 7s (full rig) at 12 minutes, for example. The boat(s) in front of their respective fleet at that time win. Starts are at rolling 1 minute intervals.

In theory, every boat would be at the same place at the finish time but vagaries of wind, tactics, personal performance etc. means the boats are usually well spread out! When 80 minutes has elapsed, the safety boat will drive past and record your finishing order.

Wind light - perfect for first timers!
