For all you extremely keen sailors, don't forget the clock go forward by one hour on Sunday the 29th March, at 1am (GMT) 'Standard Time', heralding the start of British Summer Time (BST). What does this mean to you, well at 1am the clocks go forward one hour to 2am which means you get an hour less in bed unless you want to miss the first race start. It also allows you to enjoy the benefits of longer daylight hours so you can spend more time fettling with your boat in the dinghy park.
The wonderful idea of British Summer Time, first proposed in the UK by William Willet in 1907, became part of our statutes with the Summer Time Act in 1916 which was supposed to help conserve resources and boost productivity during the First World War.
