New Race Automated Start / Finish System

Published 10:51 on 8 May 2021

The sailing committee wants to introduce the new race auto start/finish sequence; it is currently fitted to Lightning Sue and a second unit will, in time, be fitted to the Race Hut. Weather permitting, it will be used for the first time on Sunday May 9th.

The start sequence will revert to 6 minutes, 3 minutes, Go, for the first start (fast asymmetric); then, 3 minute interval starts afterwards. It will be indicated by a series of lamps: the display sequence being: Blue - fast asymmetric; Green - fast handicap; Red - ILCA; Yellow - slow handicap. The 6, 3, go sequence will be accompanied by a sound signal.

Greater detail is given in the appendix in the Covid Restriction Sailing Instructions: see Members Portal/Racing Documents.

If confused ask at Lightning Sue where instructions will be given verbally

A bigger difference will be seen for the Race Team. Full instruction and help will be given to the volunteer race team for as long as it is required

The new system is to make race management easier. This start sequence will be introduced initially; the auto finish system will be introduced gradually at a later date

All constructive comments and criticism to Richard Hall please

If this introduction goes well then it is intended that this will be the default way club racing is managed
