CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026

Sunday the 20th September 2026; where else would you want to spend your day, other than racing in the hallowed company of champions at the event of events, the pinnacle of our racing calendar, the Club Championships. We offer you not one but two races, {one in the morning 'Warning signal 10:55; and a second race for the afternoon not starting before 14:00 hrs}. Two competitive races, interspersed with fine dining at the Waterside CafĂ©.

Two eighty minute pursuit races and the chance to win multiple prizes!

If you've never taken part in a pursuit race before, don't worry here's a quick guide to help you understand how it works.

Unlike traditional handicap racing, where all boats start together and results are calculated afterward, a pursuit race uses staggered start times based on each boat's  PY or 'Portsmouth Handicap'. The slowest boat starts first (largest handicap number), and the faster boats (smaller handicap number), follow at timed intervals, with the goal being, that after eighty minutes of hard fought and nail bighting sailing, everyone hopefully finishes together. We combine the scores of both races to find the overall winner and our new club champion. As an enticement to sail in both races, we have an additional prize for the winner of the last race. We may even, Commodore and Chief Finance Officer permitting, award some discretionary prizes on the day.
