A message from the Commodore

Published 16:02 on 24 Dec 2020

The OSC Committee sends Christmas and New Year greetings to you all. As the ad on the bus shelter I passed yesterday said, "All I want for Christmas is 2021". But the Club's year is not over until 31 March. Covid has meant we need to plan in terms of days and weeks as well as months, and that that we are aiming at a moving target. We're sorry that we have to ask members from Tiers 3 & 4 not to visit the Club and mindful that our Tier 2 status is unlikely to survive the New Year.

But that won't stop us over Christmas. Steve Gould, our energetic Sailing Secretary has been pounding various keypads to secure race teams for the Boxing Day Pursuit Race on Saturday and for Sunday Club Racing on 27 December, and onward into January and February. Sailing Club Manager is the platform if you want to volunteer for any slots until the end of March. Volunteer duties will be with us until shielding is no longer necessary.

The Annual Report gave a detailed picture of the fantastic efforts that members have made to keep the Club on the water and thriving despite obstacles, but we are humbled by your support, which has brought us closer together despite events conspiring to isolate us.

I'll be writing to you in January about preparations for the new season. Meanwhile, HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

David
